La storia di Lucia è la storia di una giovane donna, orfana di padre, appartenente ad una ricca famiglia di Siracusa.

Eutichia, la madre di Lucia, era ammalata da tempo, aveva provato diverse cure ma nulla era servito. Durante un pellegrinaggio di siracusani al sepolcro di Sant’Agata, Lucia pregò la santa di intercedere per curare la madre. Durante la preghiera Lucia si addormentò e Sant’Agata la esortò in sogno: “Lucia, perché chiedi a me ciò che puoi ottenere tu per tua madre?”. Lucia, rientrata a Siracusa, vide che sua madre era guarita e prese la decisione che le segnò la vita: dedicare la sua esistenza a Cristo.
